TOMMI “Telewide Open-Platform for Mobile Multi-media and Internet” is a multi media “exchange” platform, which is interconnected in both technical and commercial aspects with all the six mobile operator in Hong Kong and China Mobile in China. Despite the very high penetration of mobile subscribers, the application of mobile technology as enterprises solutions is still relatively under-developed in Hong Kong. One of the primary reasons is the difficulties faced by the enterprises when trying to integrate their existing IT system with the mobile network, which involves detailed and complex interfacing and application issues, complicated by the fact that the six networks as offered by the six local mobile operators have different interfacing requirement. TOMMI helps to overcome such difficulties by bridging between the application server of the enterprises and the mobile device of the general public mobile subscribers to extend the enterprise applications to the mobile world.
TOMMI platform is Telewide’s own developed technology, it supports different kinds of access method including Web, WAP, Voice and SMS to provide any kinds of output such as Voice, SMS, MMS, Video and Email/Fax. As a computer based platform, TOMMI is able to integrate with external database and application easily with HTTP, XML VPN connection. As a result, there are different kinds of application possibilities including information retrieval and broadcast service, automatic push, access control, information charging, M-Coupon…and many more. As shown in the section “Market Performance & Competitiveness”, it has enabled many successful enterprises application. In particular due to TOMMI’s powerful features and flexible approach, many of the applications were implemented in a speedy manner, typically in a matter of a few weeks.
